31 Aug 2010 - 62nd Emmy Awards 2010

The 62nd Emmy Awards 2010 took place on Sunday night giving us another chance to drool over gorgeous dresses, fabulous hair and make up, and of course gaze at the all important bling!  Of course being the make up freak that I am, I took a good close look at all the make up looks hitting the red carpet and found a few faces who stood out from the rest of the crowd.

This year I thought Claire Danes sparkled effortlessly in a golden shimmer from head to toe.  Her peachy cheeks gave her a healthy glow, and her long thick lashes made her eyes pop.  The soft pink glossy lips finished her polished look and she got it spot on.  Someone we don't see very often is Jewel and I thought she look gorgeous and girly at this year's Emmy Awards.  She wore soft nude tones from head to toe and her raspberry coloured lip gave us a puch of summery colour bringing the whole look together...beautiful.  Last but not least is January Jones who looked stunning in blue and kept her make up simple and minimal.  It was all about her flawless skin and nude lips, but her amazing long lashes give her enough definition and intensity to compliment her statement dress....gorgeous!!

29 Jul 2010 - Behind the Scenes at The Outlet Summer Fashion Photoshoot

A few months ago I had the pleasure of doing the make up for a lookbook fashion shoot of all the key SS10 season trends available from the stores at The Outlet.  The shoot was conducted by Sugahfix.com and the entire day was filmed so that people could get a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes at a fashion photoshoot.  So I'm pleased to announce the finished product which is available to view on www.youtube.com right now!  Hope you enjoy it!

27 Jul 2010 - Behind the Scenes

Today I did make up for a TV program, which is nothing new for me, except that they wanted to film hair and make up being done as part of the program!  I met a lovely crew from Swedish TV3 program 'Ensam Mamma' (meaning Single Mother Seeking), a reality TV program about a single mother's adventure to find true love with one of two lucky lads.  They wanted a rockabilly makeover, so Clare & Caroline from Vintage Rocks created some gorgeous hairstyles, and I performed my magic with make up!  At first it was daunting being in front of the camera, but we all soon relaxed and had a lovely afternoon getting to know each other.  The program will be aired in September 2010 and for anyone interested in watching it, I'll put a link on my site.  For the moment, enjoy the behind the scenes photos!

15 Jul 2010 - Making You the Most Beautiful Bride in the World!

6 Jul 2010 - New Product - Lip Fixation

I have found a new product which I really like so I thought I'd write about it.  Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics have produced a long lasting lip colour/gloss called Lip Fixation.  It comes in three different colours called Craving, Desire and Fascination.  Now I would not be a fan of long lasting lip colours and would not normally recommend them to any of my clients, as I feel they are far too drying, it's like concrete on your lips...not a good look!  So when I came across this product, I was sceptical at first.  However, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it for myself.....and I was pleasantly surprised!!  This is the only long lasting lip colour I've come across which isn't dry or harsh on the lips.  The base colour goes on like a watercolour stain, then you apply a top coat of gloss and voila!  To touch up you can simply reapply a coat of gloss as the base colour will stay in place.  I think this is a great product for brides to be, as they will be able to have gorgeous luscious lips without having to touch up all the time!  Priced at £19.95 each I have them in stock now!

21 May 2010 - 'Art of Seduction' Workshop

This evening saw Vintage Rocks Hair Parlour host an evening called 'Art of Seduction', a workshop providing hints and tips on hair (by Clare Afshar), movie star make up (by me!), first class photography (by Jessica Weber), and sexy burlesque moves (by Lucy Morgan of The Whistle Bait Babies).  We had a fantastic bunch of girls attend the night, and while each and everyone of them had their hair and make up done, they also sipped on a glass of bubbly and nibbled on delicious cup cakes.  Jessica set up a set for each person providing them with an individual and creative photo and Lucy then gathered the girls for a bit of cheekiness and fun guiding them through the basics of burlesque.  Great craic was had by all and it was thanks to all our gorgeous girls for making it a memorable night.  We will be hosting another Art of Seduction workshop night soon, so I'll keep you posted!

9 May 2010 - The Outlet Photoshoot

Today team Sugahfix worked on a fashion photoshoot at The Outlet in Banbridge, creating a look book of different fashions available at the many stores situated in the complex.  We had Jessica Weber doing photography, Katrina Doran (Sugahfix.com) on styling and art direction, Eve Brannon on styling, Suzan Manning from Zuni mastered hair and I had the pleasure of doing the make up on our model, Sarah.  We had many looks to get through but we aced it all in one day which is due to the professionalism and expertise of each and every person involved…what a great team!  Photos from the shoot will be featured on the website very soon, and you can read all about it here www.sugahfix.com

19 Apr 2010 - Irish News

Here is a look at an article featured in today’s Irish News, written by Katrina Doran (Editor of Sugahfix.com) with contributions made by me!  The article is about the new Body Electrics range from Illamasqua.

12 Apr 2010 - Vintage Rocks Photoshoot

Today I worked on an awesome photoshoot for Vintage Rocks Hair Parlour.  The concept of the shoot was all about the sexy vintage pin up girl and the models absolutely rocked it.  Clare Afshar, owner of the salon, pulled out some amazing hair styling, and for the make up I concentrated on peachy porcelain skin, big eyes and lashes, and raspberry lips.  Jessica Weber was the photographer of the day and went all out to produce some amazing and creative photographs.  As soon as the final pics are ready they will be featured as part of my Spring 2010 Portfolio so make sure you check them out!

1 Apr 2010 - Pixiwoo girls

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Samantha and Nicola Chapman who are famously known as Pixiwoo, make up bloggers extraordinaire!  They were in Belfast today at the Illamasqua counter in Debenhams providing one on one consultations.  I had the rare treat of getting my make up done!!  Nicola created a dramatic smokey eye look for me and I love it!  We chatted about blogging, make up, travel, Belfast, Australia and Lady Gaga!  The girls were lovely and it was great to get an insight into what they love doing, which is what I also love doing….make up!!  An article on this and the new Body Electrics range by Illamasqua will soon feature on Sugahfix.com and in The Irish News, so stay tuned.

23 Mar 2010 - Kelly Osbourne... one word... STUNNING!

I know this isn’t really about make up, but I just would like to say that I think Kelly Osbourne is looking absolutely stunning lately!  I’m sure there are many out there who either love or hate her new lavender hair, but I love it.  She looks so healthy, toned and radiant, and I love the gorgeous dress she wore to the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars 2010 Party.  Fabulous!

18 Mar 2010 - Formal Make Ups @ Vintage Rocks Hair Parlour

This afternoon I set up camp at Vintage Rocks Hair Parlour in Newtownbreda to do several formal make ups for some gorgeous girls who were in having their hair expertly styled by salon owner, Clare Afshar.  We had a right giggle (as we always do in Vintage Rocks) getting all the girls preened and ready for their formal night…how exciting!!  All the stops were pulled out from glamorous curls to smokey eyes to false eyelashes and lots of shimmer and sparkle.  The girls not only looked amazing but told us they felt amazing which is what really matters and makes me feel very satisfied and happy.  For more details on Vintage Rocks Hair Parlour to go www.vintagerockshairparlour.com

16 Mar 2010 - I'm on the wrong side of the camera!

Had a photoshoot today with photographer Jessica Weber to create new images for a model portfolio.  It went very well and we got some great shots especially as the model was very new but she had a very high fashion look.  Photos will be available at a later date and I’ll post onto my portfolio page.  But aside from this shoot, it was then my turn!!  I needed a new headshot to add to my new website and Jessica was up for the challenge.  I’m not used to being in front of the camera, I’m always behind it, so it was rather daunting for me!  Anyway after a lot of messing about and tears of laughter, we ended up getting a couple of good shots in amongst a lot of silly ones!  Just goes to show it is hard work in front of the camera and modelling is not as easy as some people think! ;-)

12 Mar 2010 - News from Fashion Weeks

February/March saw fashion weeks held in London, Paris, Milan, and even Belfast!  All the hottest designers showcased their A/W10 collections, but of course the big name on everyone’s lips was the legendary Alexander McQueen, whose recent passing shocked the fashion world.

Belfast based fashion photographer, Jessica Weber, was at each location to capture the catwalk and celebrity front rowers for Elle Magazine UK.  I asked Jessica to provide an overview of what she saw and also what she thought were the highlights of the event. “Highlights from the shows were the Hakaan show, the designer is relatively unknown but managed to pull in quite an impressive front row (with help from Elle Magazine) including Kate Moss and David Walliams.  David was there to see his fiancé Lara Stone walk down the catwalk.  She was one of many big name models who walked for Hakaan and the clothes were pretty impressive too.  I also got a gorgeous pic of Naomi Campbell after the Vivienne Westwood show.  Christopher Kane, the Fashion sweetheart, didn't disappoint again, his collection was gorgeous, lovely flower prints on leather.

I most look forward though to Vivienne’s show.  She always does her own thing and always has a political statement to go with it.  This time she was promoting awareness for Haiti and global warming alongside her beautiful garments”.

For more details on Jessica Weber Photography go to www.jessicaweberphotography.com

For me personally, I loved the make up in Vivienne’s show, I loved the heavily contoured and shaded faces of the models, a really interesting look and very innovative.  I also loved the make up in the Sass and Bide show with dark blackberry lips and nude eyes, very chic and edgy.

8 Mar 2010 - Oscars 2010 - Make Up Trends

The Oscar awards this year was a star studded and very glamorous event which saw all the A-listers turn it up to the max for the red carpet.  The stand out for me was Sandra Bullock.  Not only did she win the award for Best Actress, she also won hands down in the style stakes.  She was sleek and polished and the punch of berry pink lips against her stunning gold gown was spot on.  I also loved Sarah Jessica Parker with her smouldering smudgy smoky eyes and nude lips, very chic just like her Chanel gown.  And while the jury is out on Zoe Saldana’s dress, her make up look is perfect with flawless glowing skin, rosy cheeks and volumous thick lashes.  I love seeing the glamour and sparkle of any awards events but this years Oscars was the best yet!
